A new code in Qld is now in force that provides guidance on the standards of health, safety and welfare required under work health and safety laws to identify and manage respirable dust hazards at coal-fired power stations.

In March 2017, the Queensland Parliament extended the terms of reference of the Coal Workers’ Pneumoconiosis Select Committee from coal mine workers to include the other workers such as those in power stations. The Managing respirable dust hazards in coal-fired power stations Code of Practice 2018 implements recommendation one of the Committee under its extended terms of reference.
"In addition, the new code also implements the recommendations of the CWP Committee in its earlier report for consistent safety standards for all coal workers across Queensland by adopting standards consistent with those that apply in coal mines for personal dust monitoring and health monitoring and coverage for contract workers.
"We want to ensure everyone employed in the coal-fired power station industry is healthy and safe because all risks are managed properly."
