With the new ISO 45001 OHS Management System standard being released any day you may be thinking around what path to follow - stay with the current AS/NZS 4801 & OSHA 18001 or venture forth with ISO 45001?
My recommendation is that you kick off and start building your system in line with ISO 45001.
Why?
Because it's release is pending within a couple of months and it's easier to start now rather than use one of the current standards which will be superseded in the future once ISO 45001 is available.
It aligns with the new High Level Structure format of already released ISO standards such as 9001 Quality Management Systems, 14001 Environmental Management Systems, 27001 Information Security Systems which you should be (if not already) looking to move towards.
High Level Structure or HLS provides an identical structure, text and common terms and definitions for management system standards which provides a consistent framework to work with. It also makes the standards easier to read and, in so doing, be understood by users.
Stay posted for future updates and announcements around the upcoming newly created ISO 45001 OHS Management System standard.
